Dear Supporters,
As many of you may already know we are remodeling the dormitory showers in the upcoming months. The goal is to have the shower project complete prior to Memorial Day weekend. In December we launched a fundraising campaign to finance this project. To date we have collected approximately 2/3rds of our targeted sum of $15,000. Although $15,000 may seem like a large number please remember that we are looking at rebuilding a total of 10 showers. When divided individually it comes out to $1500 per shower.
So everyone can visualize our plans I have put together some drawings illustrating current and end results. Currently when you enter into the 123 square foot area the first thing you see a shower curtain, (see figure 1) which is followed by a wall with shower heads and on/off valves. The “shower stalls” are divided simply with shower curtains. Currently the showers are dark, inefficient, uncomfortable, lack privacy and difficult to clean. To put it gently…they are rudimentary at best!
Upon completion the showers will take on a completely new look (see figure 2). The area will be bright and well lit with the middle open providing a spacious feel. We will have five individual showers on each side (boys side and girls side) with two of them being oversized to accommodate special needs. Each stall will have an adjustable height shower head and individual temperature control. Yes the one temperature fits all control valves will be a thing of the past. Also. each stall will also have a grab rail for security and we’ll top the entire floor with an non-slip coating. We’ll incorporate small niches to hold soap and shampoo and we’ll add plenty of hooks for bathrobes and towels. All of this will be finished with a complementary earth toned color scheme.
We have been thinking about this project for several years. Recent feedback from you, our supporters, validated the need to move forward. As always our goal is to listen and react to your needs, concerns and wants. Finally, if you would like to see this project completed on time and budget, please donate today.
Thank you,
RKLIC Board of Directors
