Kursa’s 2017 Jāņi celebration was one for the ages!
On the longest day of this year, we were blessed with amazing weather–not a cloud in the sky, and just the perfect sultry temperature for a refreshing dip in the pool that, for dozens of people, lasted well into the late afternoon. Though it was hard to leave the sparkling blue water, drying off proved well worth it–it was time for an incredible meal, punctuated by a 12-hour roasted pig that Karlis Grendze had lovingly tended with coals overnight, much to the delight of all diners! Following dinner, the program, emceed by the charismatic Jekabs Kremans and Julijs Pruzinskis, was incredibly entertaining and went off without a hitch. Trejdeksnitis put on a lively and jovial performance, showcasing their clever choreography and light feet even in the warm weather! Later, Maija Riekstina shared her famous and beloved Jāņu siers and pīrāgi, and the entire crowd enjoying singing to their favorite Līgo songs. After the program, the crowd dispersed as the fires were lit and music began to fill the air, all in pursuit of the sight of dawn and most dancing into the night underneath the tapestry of beautiful stars. The following day, warm heat gave visitors one last opportunity to swim, recover, and enjoy each other’s company before departing beloved Kursa. No doubt, this was one Jāņi we will never forget!
